Automotive technicians’ duties revolve around troubleshooting and repair of cars and trucks.

Technicians comb vehicles for mechanical problems and test systems for malfunctions.

They put together reports of problem spots for cars’ owners and estimate parts and costs needed for repair.

Once they have the client’s approval, technicians make the repairs.

Technicians also handle routine maintenance to protect cars from bigger repairs down the road including oil changes, tire rotation and tune up engines

An automotive technician must be aware of the hazards of his job and take precautions to prevent accidents, both to the auto he is repairing and for his own safety. The technician must be physically fit enough to reach into the automobile’s engine to make necessary repairs.

The job does require some lifting of heavy materials.

The automotive technician must be able to listen to the customer’s description of her automobile’s problem and determine how to proceed with its repair.

The technician must also be able to answer customer’s questions in a polite and clear manner.
